The Return of a Fan Favorite, The Paloma Blanket

Redesigned with You in Mind

Some pieces announce themselves. Others simply become part of the life of a house, and you only notice how much you loved them once they are gone.

The Paloma Blanket was always the second kind.

It lived on the arm of a reading chair, where the afternoon light found it and turned briefly into something molten. It was folded at the foot of a guest bed as a small welcome, the sort of gesture that says stay awhile. It was carried out to the porch on a cool evening, drawn across a lap through a long conversation, gathered up and moved from room to room without ceremony because it belonged in all of them.

It was never the loudest thing in a room, and that was precisely its gift.

And then it was gone, as pieces sometimes are. But it was never quite forgotten. The Paloma Blanket stayed in the conversation long after the last one left our studio, remembered and asked after in a way that very few retired styles ever are.

So we have brought it back. Restored, reconsidered, and returned to you with everything that made it beloved, wholly intact.

A Body of Iridescent Silk Charmeuse

The Paloma Blanket begins where it always began, with silk charmeuse, garment dyed in small batches so that color settles down into the weave rather than resting politely on the surface of it.

Charmeuse has a particular and rather romantic relationship with light. Turn it toward a window, and it warms and opens. Fold it back on itself, and the shadow gathers into a second, quieter version of the same color, as though the cloth were remembering a deeper shade of itself. Move through a room and the whole surface shifts with you, a slow tide of light traveling across the silk.

This is the color play at the heart of the piece, and it is the reason no two Paloma Blankets are ever quite alike. Each one carries the small, honest variations of the dye pot it came from.

The blanket is backed in the same brilliant charmeuse, so that shimmer continues without interruption. Draped, folded, or turned back at the corner, it is luminous from every angle.

Finished with a Petit Silk Velvet Flange

Around the edge runs a narrow flange of silk-velvet, dyed to match, laid down like a line of punctuation at the end of a beautiful sentence.

Velvet and charmeuse speak to the eye in opposite voices. One drinks the light in and holds it. The other gives it back. Where the two meet along that slender border, the whole piece resolves into something finished and deliberate, the way a frame completes a painting rather than merely containing it.

It is a small detail. It is also, without fail, the detail people remember.

Pearl: a charmeuse bed end blanket is shown layered at the foot of a bed, its contrasting silk velvet trim and petit ruffle at the corner visible against the all winter white bedding.

Lightly Padded and Sized to Move with You

This is a personal comforter rather than a bed-sized one, and that distinction is quietly everything.

There is just enough loft to hold warmth close without any sense of weight. Light, yet generous enough to truly disappear into. The Paloma Blanket does not ask to be made part of a bed, and it does not wait to be assigned a room.

It goes where you go. From the bedroom, to the sofa, to the window seat and back again, and it looks entirely intentional wherever it comes to rest.

Made the Way Everything Here is Made

Every Paloma Blanket is hand-sewn and custom dyed in the United States.

Our master sewers cut and construct each one by hand at our Northern California studio, working the way they have always worked, with patience and attention to every detail. Our dye house, the same local partner who has stood beside us for more than twenty-five years, measures each color by hand in small batches, watching for the moment the shade is just right.

Nothing here is made before it is asked for. No blanket sits in a warehouse hoping to find someone. The Paloma Blanket that arrives at your door was cut, sewn, and dyed for you alone, in the color way you chose, drawn from a range of the full Bella Notte Linens’ palette.

A Favorite, Returned

We do not bring pieces back often. But every so often a piece proves itself in a way we cannot argue with. The Paloma Blanket did that, over the years, in hundreds of homes, one soft evening at a time.

It has earned its return.
